Earlier in the afternoon, I missed a shot of a chipmunk going into a storage cupboard outside the hotel. So I went in search of more chipmunks and found this little guy.

He'd hide if I moved closer, but he'd always come back out to keep me in sight.

He started making a little chirping noise, which I mimicked back to him in response.

I must have done a good job, because he kept talking to me. We had quite a conversation.

Finally, the biting bugs drove me away...I'd have stayed longer if it wasn't for them.

I also saw a groundhog, but he went underground before I managed to get a photo. I've never seen an actual Eastern groundhog in the wild before. I also saw a loon on one of the golf ponds...another first.

We had one raid our picnic at the zilker park rock once. Just kept coming back.

He was the cutest fellow.

We poared just a smidgen of coke into a little nook in the rock, and he LOVED it. Allthough I think the caffine was a bit more like speed to his little body.

He chatted up a storm after that.

Ok, those are absolutely adorable. We have a chippie in our back yard and we feed him shredded wheat.

Man, I miss seeing them from our days in Big Bear. (Slightly different species.) I occasionally see them when walking around Maidu Park, and when we were at Lake Arrowhead last month I saw a couple.

Cute as all get out.

One of the neatest things was when we were at the Phoenix Zoo. They have a lot of the desert chipmunk species living wild in the park.

We had a bagel as a snack, and one came over to check us out. He got a lot of bagel crumbs.
