New Hampshire wildlife [Jul. 19th, 2006|08:22 am]

While the hotel itself was amazing, so also was the wildlife that lived in its shelter.

We first saw the baby toads at breakfast. There were swarms of them on the veranda, tiny things crawling
through the grass and on the deck. The hotel had signs up warning guests not to step on them.

This nest of almost-grown swallows was also on the veranda.

I haven't seen such an array of butterflies in a while.

I hate insects. I hate and fear bees. I was very brave taking these photos, but at one point
the bee moved towards me and bravery fled...and I jumped back about 10 feet.

I'm much better with frogs. The one in the last photo is still partly tadpole as he still has a substantial tail.

Cool!! We used to have zillions of those teeny toads around our summer cottage. When I was a kid my brother and I were always catching them and using them to startle each other ;)

When I was really young my sisters and I made a makeshift pond for a few toads we found in our backyard.
I frickin love those things. SO MUCH FUN.
