DO NOT USE FRIENDITTO - or rather, if you do, please let me know so I can remove you from my "friends" list. No offense intended.

Essentially, you are giving permission to the people who own LJ DRAMA to scan and cache your friends friends-only entries. If you have used this service, you need to let me know so that I can take you off of my friends list.

DO NOT use this service without fully understanding what it does and what it exposes you and your friends to, particularly if you want to remain on my friends list. There has been some concern over this site and security of LJ accounts. If you provide it with your login information for your Live Journal you give this service permission to archive your friends only entries and ANY locked entries of your friends for which you have access. Please read the following answer to my support request regarding this site and be informed. More importantly, inform others.

Dear user,

Frienditto is not affiliated with LiveJournal in any way. As such, this website does not have access to any entries which are not publicly viewable. If someone provides them with their LiveJournal username and password, however, it gives this site access to all non-public entries that account would have access to. We can only recommend that you do not provide your username and password to any person or website to ensure the security of your account.

Additionally, if you believe anyone on your Friends list may have provided their login information to this website, we can only advise that you remove them from your Friends list. This website will have access to your Friends-only entries as long as any person on your Friends list has given the site access. If any content is present on Frienditto which you do not wish to be there, you will need to resolve the issue with that website.

LiveJournal Abuse Team

Sadly, I am a victim of such things; there are people I've had to defriend who hate my guts and accuse me of being a stalker and oh, all sorts of other things. These people can and will copy things I've written in my locked posts and comments and repost them in their own journals so people I specifically filtered out of a post can read them, which is among the reasons they were defriended in the first place. Furthermore, some of these people are on some of your friends lists.

I don't want them in my journal (I have banned them from commenting so they can't wreak any havoc or cause me any more hurt, and I screen all non-friends posts anyway), so if you decide to use this Frienditto thingy...tell me. I won't like having to do it, but I'll have no choice but to defriend you for my own peace of mind. This is a public post because I don't always know when someone adds me and I may be on their friends list...but they may not be on mine.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled LiveJournal programming, already in progress.

Ack! I don't have that, and I don't even really understand what it is and I don't care to.

I just like chitchattin' with ya, gal.
You're such a cool and intelligent person. I just have a hard time imagining people being pissy with you. (Granted, I don't know you in real life, but I trust my instincts, and you seem to be well-grounded and thoughtful.)

Sheesh, what a hostile world we live in.

Don't give up.

No kidding.

I have no idea why they absolutely cut me out of their lives they way they did...not like I acted any different towards them than I do to anyone else. *shrug*

Thanks, though.

I don't really know what Frienditto is, either, but my friends keep posting about it and it doesn't sound good, so I reckon I'd better make my little anti-announcement about it like everyone else.

You know, I'm not old...but I'm too old for that bullshit. I had a friend who I had known since I was 5 years old (went to high school with, our parents were close friends in the art community) cut me off without any real reason or impetus. She said (after avoiding my phone messages for over a month and a half and me thinking that something horrible had happened to her), "I just don't enjoy your company. I don't like your boyfriend." This was the same girl who sent me a Christmas card about 3 months earlier saying "I'm so glad you're in my life...I value your friendship...I love you, Rach..." blah blah blah. I was just stunned. I've never been crossed off of anyone's real life friends list before or after that.

Anyhow, the older I get, the more I realize that sometimes you can be close to certain people for a period of time - sometimes the friendship has staying power and sometimes it fades. I'm okay with it. I'm burned out on ruminating over the WHY WHY WHY? anymore.

My closest friends have all stuck with me for over 2 decades and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Thanks for the heads up. I for one am concerned about our protected entries being disclosed. I for one refuse to use Frienditto as I have no good use for it. IMNSHO, the site was created more for wrongful purposes than for good.

It looks like I will have to take similar measures to protect the intergrity of my journal. If you don't mind, I'd like to pass along this alert.

I'd never heard of "frienditto" before this. Sounds like some sort of evil plot... Ugh.

This is news to me. Never heard of the thing, and frankly, whoever goes to ANY website that asks for their username/password to other sites, is a moron. You would think that common sense would kick in to these folks and tell them, "Hey, this might not be a good idea."

frienditto.com (which I never heard of before until I read your post a few minutes ago) seems to be on the edge of collapse, which is good.
"You can donate to Frienditto!

Frienditto's operating costs have increased dramatically in the past 48 hours due to a massive influx of users wanting to view the site. This increased traffic combined with bandwidth costs is threatening the site's continued operations. Additionally, the Frienditto service is now under severe legal duress due to being named in various actions. We appreciate any support large or small.

Thank you for your fealty,

The frienditto team."

I'm glad they're being sued. I don't know what the legal right to privacy is, but I do know the common courtesy right is.

Not only that-- there is no longer any functionality to the site.

I learned of LJ drama a few months ago, and its existence saddened me greatly.

I hadn't heard of it, either, til a bunch of my friends started posting about it. But, since they are levelheaded, tech-oriented, non-paranoid and not normally panicky, I figured if they were posting this, it was serious.

That + one of my ex-friends I'm concerned about is the sort who would use a thing like this = I don't like this one bit, and I'm taking it seriously.

I like reading your posts, and I've never heard of this LJDrama thing let alone want to use it.

Can LJ not do something about this program?

I don't know...I actually heard about it from the people on my friends list.
I know that LJ is warning the LJ population about this thing, and the Frienditto site, apparently, is down...

But the idea that things could be public without my consent gives me the heebie-jeebies.

I don't either: all I know is it's some sort of public archiving site, and as I understand it, in archiving, it makes everything public, and it dominoes in such a way that by going through comments (I think) people can get into your journal and see all your posts, even if you yourself didn't sign up for the thing.

I have also heard that it requires your LJ password. I tried to look it up and see it for myself, but by the time I got to it, it was down.

Care to chill out instead at my cider & cheese potluck fundraiser this Saturday? (I sent you the evite.)

I highly recommend the heartening taste of fine alcoholic ciders and crumbly British cheeses.
