i really like your take on it. it's a much different perspective than other reviews of it have been. very cool. i wasn't going to see it anyway, but you give me even more reason to avoid it. :) maybe i'll see the japanese version though.

I was really pissed when I heard there was going to be a remake. I refuse to watch, even though Susan Sarandon's in it... and even if it makes it to the television, and I can watch it for free. Spit! Foam! Froth! Gnash teeth!

I will riot in the streets if Hollywhack remakes Tampopo.

I don't mind some remakes...I mean, The Maginificent Seven from Seven Samurai? I can live with that. But this? Apart from the setting, the race, and a random son appearing in just one scene for no other reason than to explain to the dumb roundeyes why the hero goes back to the dance studio...it's very nearly a word-for-word copy.

It's not so much a remake as it is just a translation. And not a very good one of those, either.
